The importance of fish nutrient value is a known fact. Fresh fish meat is a high protein food source (around 20% protein) which is enriched with beneficial minerals and fatty acids, all being essential for human health. Fish meat also has more water and less fat in comparison with red and bird meat. The purpose of this research is to study the changes in fish retail price relative to changes in minimum wage in Iran during 2001-2009. The results show that as the price of fish has had more increase compared to the minimum wage, people’s purchasing power has declined and fish has become a luxury food for certain groups of the population
