Abstract

In order to make more use of non-oil exports potential of the country, factors affecting the export of fishery products were identified by searching in library resources as well as by interviewing experts. After designing the questionnaire, its validity was confirmed by the exporters and experts. After completing the questionnaire, the data was analyzed by 35 statistical samples using Garrett ranking technique. The most important factors affecting the export of fishery products include improving international trade relations, reforming domestic customs laws and regulations, reducing production cost and inflation, increasing standards of production and processing, the possibility of attracting foreign investment, observing regulations and standards destination's quality and health, effective presence and special promotions in global markets, identifying and providing information on target export markets, and government support and oversight, respectively. Thus, the government, with its strong support from the fish exports sector, can attract international investment, improve international relations, and reduce inflation and production cost. Also, the field of reforming customs regulations, adequate knowledge and presence in export markets and regulations will also help to improve and increase exports.

Abstract

In the not-too-distant past, caviar was known only by the names of Iran and Russia. Today, other brands have been introduced in the world that have higher production and export rates than Iran and Russia. This status will cause great damages to the brand and reputation of Iranian caviar. In this research, the field or survey method was used to collect information. Completing the questionnaire, interview, and observation methods were used as the main tools for data collection. To complete the questionnaires, trained experts related to the activities of propagation, breeding and re-stocking, statistics, and economic experts were used. Based on 30 questions defined by the experts, a five-choice Likert scale question was designed and after confirming the validity of the questionnaire, the reliability of the questionnaire was calculated and confirmed using the Cronbach's alpha index equal to 0.727. In this study, Friedman's ranking test, a non-parametric equivalent of the one-way analysis of variance test with repeated measures, was also used to rank the variables (defined variables based on the question group). Based on the results of the ranking of the Friedman test, the factors affecting and harmful for the Iranian caviar brand including the lack of government support mechanisms for breeders, the weakness of training and knowledge of farmers, restrictions on private investment, the performance of small farms, the limitations of equipment and manpower, little attention to the important issues and points of breeding, processing and packaging, the development of the competitive capacity of other sturgeon breeding countries, lack of optimal management of sturgeon breeders, the time-consuming and expensiveness of sturgeon farming, the lack of efficient laws and government supervision, and the lack of attention to branding research in the macro-decisions of the country, respectively.

Abstract

The present research was conducted to collect and weigh the criteria affecting the desirability of fish and to provide a coherent and citation ranking for commercial marine fish in Khuzestan province. Semi-structured Delphi interviews with 15 experts were used to identify the criteria. The criteria were prioritized and the sub-criteria were screened using the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) method. A researcher-made questionnaire was used to rank the desirability of fish for consumers and the validity and reliability of the questionnaire were confirmed by conventional methods. Expert Choice and SPSS statistical softwares were used to analyze the data extracted from 181 completed questionnaires. Criteria such as taste and palatability (local weight = 0.209), cooking quality (0.165), thorn density and hardness (0.165), discards ratio (0.153), and price (0.114) are the most striking desirable factors of marine fish in Khuzestan is from the point of view of experts. Fish species including four-finger threadfin (Eleutheronema tetradactylum) (overall weight = 0.379), tiger tooth croaker (Otolithes ruber) (0.368), Sobaity seabream (Sparidentex hasta) (0.364), orange-spotted grouper (Epinephelus coioides) (0.362), silver pomfret (Pampus argenteus) (0.360), Southern meager (Argyrosomus hololepidotus) (0.353), gray sweetlips (Diagramma pictum) (0.353), spangled emperor (Lethrinus nebulosus) (0.351), John’s snapper (Lutjanus johnii) (0.351), and narrow-barred mackerel (Scomberomorus commerson) (0.350) were known as the best options in terms of cooking, preparation, and pre-preparation criteria, respectively, which are more desirable to consumers. The findings of this study can be beneficial for the organizations relevant in the distribution and trade of aquatic animals, such as the Iran Fisheries Organization and it is hoped that the results will be fruitful for production, economic prosperity, and the fishing road map in line with the regulation of domestic markets.
