Abstract:   (17 Views)
In recent years, the use of plant compounds as an alternative to antibiotics in aquaculture has received attention. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of barberry (Berberis vulgaris) extract nanoemulsion on growth performance, blood indices and antioxidant status of common carp (Cyprinus carpio). In this study, 144 fry with an average initial weight of about 50±0.5 g was fed for 8 weeks in 4 treatments and 3 replicates. The treatments included control and levels of 250, 500 and 750 mg/kg of barberry nanoemulsion. The results showed that the highest weight gain and specific growth rate (SGR) were observed in the 500 mg treatment (p<0.05). Also, a significant increase in hemoglobin, white blood cell and red blood cell parameters was observed in this treatment. The activity of antioxidant enzyme SOD, and liver enzymes ALT and AST also significantly improved in this treatment compared to the control treatment (p<0.05). This study revealed promising results of the effect of barberry nanoemulsion at the level of 500 mg/kg as an effective additive in improving growth and regulating the immune and antioxidant systems of carp.
